A Paradise Where A Great Nation Begins Key West is an island city 4 miles long by 2 miles wide, located at the end of U.S. Highway 1, approximately 160 miles south west of Miami, Florida. The city is the county seat of Monroe County. The principal industry is tourism. A survey performed in 1996 estimated that 1.5 million people visited Key West and 2.5 million visited at least some part of the Florida Keys. Estimates show 2003 visitor counts increased to 2.3 million visiting Key West and 3.4 million visiting at least some part of the Florida Keys. |
