How to Get a Marriage License in Pennsylvania

Follow these steps to obtain a marriage license in the Keystone State.

Instructions

STEP 1: Make sure you're both at least 18 years of age. (If you're younger, you'll need parental consent.)

STEP 2: Note that blood tests are no longer required in this state.

STEP 3: Apply in person with your intended spouse at the county clerk's office, which is located in the county courthouse.

STEP 4: Bring a photo identification with you. Some counties require this before issuing a license.

STEP 5: Be prepared to wait three days after you apply for the license before it can be granted.

STEP 6: Expect to pay in cash. The price varies from county to county but is usually in the $25 to $50 range.

STEP 7: Bring any divorce or death certificates with you if either of you has been married before.

STEP 8: Remember that the license is valid for 60 days.
