How to Write a Wedding Announcement

Follow these easy steps to writing and sending out a special announcement to family and friends sharing the good news about your recent marriage.

Instructions

STEP 1: Make a list of all of the people who should receive announcements.

STEP 2: Order custom-printed announcements. You can get these from small print shops and some card stores.

STEP 3: Expect to pay around $150 for 50 cards, depending on the quality of the paper and the design you select.

STEP 4: Allow two weeks or more for the cards to be ready.

STEP 5: Include important details such as the full names of you and your spouse, your parents' names and the date of your marriage.

STEP 6: Decide whether to include more specifics, such as the wedding time and location. If you're sending these to people who weren't invited, take care not to make them feel left out.

STEP 7: Realize that some people who receive the announcements will send you a gift but that doing so is optional.

STEP 8: View the cards as a way to tell people about your marriage, your new address and your married name.

Tips & Warnings

--Wedding announcements are typically sent out after a couple elopes, to tell people about their new status. These announcements are also appropriate after a small wedding to which many of your family and friends were not invited.
--Check with both sets of parents for names of people they would like to receive the announcement.
--If you can't afford custom announcements, consider buying prepackaged cards that have space for you to fill in the information yourself. These average about $5 to $10 or more for eight cards.
--Save a copy for your scrapbook or frame it and hang it on your wall.
