It Poured For A Free Ring

My wife and I have been married for nine years. We met while we were at Shorter College in Rome, GA. I was working full time and going to school. While we were dating, Melanie told her mother one night that I was the one for her. This was shortly before her mother passed away. While she was on a trip with one of her classes, I went and bought her an engagement ring. Due to my limited budget and desire to get her a NICE ring, I had to use the Jeweler’s payment plan. I did sign a contract with the jeweler stating that if it rained at least one inch on my wedding date, that we would get the engagement ring for free. When she returned from the trip, I proposed to her in her backyard. We originally set the date for 8-20-1997, after she graduated from school. Right before she graduated in May, we decided to move the date up to 6/28/97. Our wedding day was beautiful, not a cloud in the sky. We were scheduled to get married at 4:00p.m. The photographer we hired was supposed to be at the church at 2:00p.m. to do all the pictures before the ceremony. He arrived at 3:30p.m. We had to do all the pictures after the ceremony. While we were finishing pictures, it began to sprinkle but then it stopped. I jokingly said to my new bride,” Do you think it rained an inch?” After the reception at the church, all the guests were invited back to her dad’s house for BBQ. We were all out back opening presents when it began to rain again. We got all the presents inside. We said goodbye to our guests and left for our honeymoon. It was pouring down so hard that we had to take an alternate route due to a fallen tree. When we returned home from our honeymoon the following week, we were presently surprised with the news that it had rained four inches on our wedding day. The Jeweler held up to his end of the contract and presented us with a check for $2600.00.
