School Prom / Graduation Party Theme - One Night in Bangkok
My boyfriend, Greg and I had been planning to attend the prom since the school year began. It promised to be a great social occasion as well as a great way to party one last time with our friends. The theme was “One Night in Bangkok”--like the song.

Near the end of the school year the prom was all we could talk about. So many of my friends were going so we made arrangements for a group of us to share a limousine. I could hardly wait for prom night.

One Saturday my girlfriends and I searched every department store, formal wear shop and bride boutique until everyone had found the perfect prom dress. I wanted something sophisticated, but not stuffy; sexy, but not trashy and elegant, but not overpriced. Everyone had already found great dresses by lunch time, but I was still looking. I was beginning to give up and thought I would have to settle for one of the others I looked at, when I found just what I was looking for in a designer outlet store. It was sophisticated, sexy, elegant and reasonably priced.

The limo stopped at my house first. I kept Greg waiting for ten minutes, but I think he felt it was worth the wait when he saw me. He told me I looked stunning, gave me a kiss and slipped the orchid corsage around my wrist. I smiled, taking his arm and we walked out the door. My mom came running out. She called to us just as we were getting into the limo and took a picture of us as a memento of our special night. I was so surprised when Greg handed me a dozen white roses and opened one of the bottles of sparkling apple cider. He modestly said it had been no trouble ordering them from the limo company.

The limo made three more stops to pick up the other couples then we headed to the hotel. Each girl’s date her out of the limo and we all walked, arm in arm, into the hotel.

Over the door to the banquet room was a banner that read “One Night in Bangkok” in black letters on a gold background. All of the tables were covered in black linens and set with white china edged in gold. Paper oriental lanterns were strung across the hall. On the wall behind the DJ’s stage there was a backdrop of Bangkok’s Grand Palace with the skyline of the city behind.

Dinner was a choice of curry chicken, prime rib or baked fish with rice and steamed vegetables. I chose the chicken and it was delicious. During dinner the DJ set up and began playing some soft music. A waiter brought a tray of desserts to each table for us to choose from. There were cheese cakes, fruit tarts, éclairs, cream puffs, ladyfingers, and angel food cake with strawberries and cream. After dessert I was so stuffed I though I wouldn’t be able to move, but once the music started up Greg and I hit the dance floor. I mostly danced to fast songs, but we also went out on the floor swaying to some slow songs. The DJ was really good and everyone had a great time.

Mark and I had our picture taken by professional photographer as a memento of the wonderful evening. His set was a rickshaw in front of a backdrop of a pagoda.

Midnight came so quickly we couldn’t believe it. A few of the couples had a gotten room at the hotel and were planning to party until dawn, but I knew my parents would have a fit if I wasn’t home before 1AM so we left.

When the limo pulled up in front of my house I walked her to the door. Our eyes met as we stood on the porch; it was so romantic. We kissed for a while before a light came on inside the house and I went inside. It was the most perfect night of my life.
