DBS: Out of Business -- Beware!

You're going to buy a lot of things for your wedding online -- just don't make your wedding gown one of them. The latest proof that this is a bad idea? Discount Bridal Services (DBS), a personal buying service that provided gowns and other wedding day wear at discounted prices, abruptly closed its doors this summer, citing "substantial financial losses for a number of years" and filing for bankruptcy.

What Happened
DBS was the country's largest online discounter of bridal apparel. In July, the company shut down its website without warning and officially ceased all operations. Much of this occurred with very little communication to customers or dealers.

For brides who had outstanding orders, the company was allegedly sending replacement gowns comparable to the values of the originals. Several brides on our message boards reported that they received their original orders or replacements they could live with. Others, however, were shipped gowns that were not suitable replacements, and still others were sent nothing at all.

Why DBS is Still an Issue?
Even though they're out of business, we've come across websites and discount services still claiming to be affiliated with DBS. Because of this company's and other online gown retailer's unreliable and unpredictable business practices, we strongly caution brides to pursue alternative options. Don't buy your gown online. There is nothing worse than finding out just weeks before your wedding that you don’t have a dress. Check out luxe for less for more dependable ways to save.
