I find myself more and more each day trying to help couples that we work with save money and stay within a reasonable budget. I guess the reason I do is because back in the 80's I personally paid $2,600 for a proof book and a handshake. Although our company offers an a la carte, basic package, and complete package, if I were advising a close relative I would have to say go for the "gold".
Your photographer should be able to show you examples of beautiful albums that he or she can get at a discounted rate (leather). When ordering prints it is many times better for the photographer to order your prints for you because the lab he works with gives him a good rate and the highest quality photos. You cannot get the same prints at your local discount mart and chances are they wont last if you do.
If your photographer is creative and good at design work you can most likely have him or her custom design you a digital hardcover or softcover book. They are beautiful, sentimental and designed around your event and less expensive than an album or parent albums.
The most important thing to remember is that the photographer you work with is a professional in the wedding industry. Find one you like that fits your budget and style!
