What is this whole rehearsal dinner and what will I have to do?

This is definitely not the proper time and place to "over do" the vino in front of your future in-laws and send your fiancée running home upset. Remember to dress accordingly, smile a lot and enjoy this special time with friends and family.

The Wedding Rehearsal

This is your big chance to make mistakes and laugh nervously to get it out of your system before the wedding. At the rehearsal, relax and try to get a feel for how the ceremony will be performed. Nobody's perfect and there are usually bumps along the way at any wedding ceremony. Just remember to be calm, have fun and enjoy yourself.

The Rehearsal Dinner

Traditionally the groom's family pays for the rehearsal dinner. But, according to the budget you've agreed upon, you can decide who pays for this event. Invited guests include : the bride and groom, your siblings and their spouses, your grandparents, wedding participants and their spouses, and if you like, out of town guests and the clergy performing the ceremony.

Since this is a special event to celebrate your wedding, you should dress appropriately for the time and location at this occasion. The bride and groom are expected to say a few words and thank their friends and loved ones for their participation. This is also a good time to present gifts to parents and members of the bridal party. The host (usually the groom's father) should make a toast and then extend an open invitation to others to toast the happy couple.

Enjoy this time with friends and family and sneak in some last-minute quiet time with your fiancé before the hectic rush of the wedding.

Helpful tip: You don't want to be red-eyed and yawning in your wedding pictures so get home early and get a good night's sleep.

For the superstitious ... tradition says that you aren't supposed to see the bride after midnight the day before the wedding. So be sure to get an early good-night kiss and get home before the clock strikes twelve.
